GEO TANKS

Geo Tanks, also known as geomembrane tanks or geotextile tanks are increasingly used in agriculture for water storage, irrigation and waste management.

Geo tanks are versatile and sustainable solutions for various water management needs. Their applications contribute significantly to sustainable living by promoting efficient resource utilization, reducing environmental impact, and enhancing resilience to climate change.

They help manage water resources efficiently, reducing dependency on erratic rainfall.

They can be integrated into drip and sprinkler systems providing consistent water pressure and flow.

In fish farming, geo tanks provide a controlled environment for breeding & growing fish.

They help maintain water quality and temperature, crucial for aquaculture

ABOUT THE PROJECT

North-East Region (NER) possesses about 33 % of the average Annual Water Resources availability in the country.  Since the rainfall is restricted to around 6 months a year, some villages may face water shortages in the dry months, especially from December to March.

Being a dominantly agricultural people, the state of Mizoram cannot survive without adequate water.

Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme for the holistic growth of the horticulture sector covering fruits, vegetables, root & tuber crops, mushrooms, spices, flowers, aromatic plants, coconut, cashew, cocoa, and bamboo. Under MIDH, the Government of India (GOI) contributes 90% of the total outlay for developmental programs in the case of North Eastern States.

One of the primary objectives of this scheme is to improve productivity by way of quality germplasm, planting material and water use efficiency through Micro Irrigation.
